In an effort to enhance the hire cars sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars (TransAD) has launched the new Intelligent Electronic Licensing System for taxi drivers.

Abu Dhabi set to test smart signs for taxis

Abu Dhabi Taxis in the capital will soon sport ‘smart' electronic signs on their roofs which will help commuters easily determine whether they are available for hire. TransAD (The Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars in Abu Dhabi), the authority regulating taxis in the emirate, will test 30 roof signs on taxis soon, according to a press release.

Taxi drivers warned to watch their speed

Starting today, taxi drivers in the capital are being warned to watch their speed – because an automated fining system will be, too. TransAD, the hired-car regulator, said in a memo to the taxi franchisees last Tuesday that new speed limits would be imposed starting today, monitored through the tracking and dispatch centre.

Women-only taxis in Abu Dhabi by March

Exclusive taxis for women -- ladies' taxis, as they will be known, are expected to hit the streets of Abu Dhabi by the end of March. The announcement was made by TransAD, the centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars in Abu Dhabi, a division of Abu Dhabi Department of Transport.
