Overworked taxi drivers are putting people’s lives at risk

Users of taxis in the capital have raised concerns about some drivers falling asleep during their rides. Despite several campaigns carried out by the Abu Dhabi Police and numerous calls to motorists to refrain from driving while tired, taxi drivers are still endangering their passengers' lives and their own, complained a reader.

Dubai Taxi profits rise 11% to Dh114 million: Al Tayer

The gross revenues of the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) soared to Dh864.341 million in 2010 compared to Dh798.837 million in 2009 with its taxi fleet running 82 million trips, lifting 164.7 million passengers last year, Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said on Saturday.

Taxi fares likely to go up in Dubai next year

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is seriously considering a proposal from six taxi franchise companies in Dubai to hike taxi fares in the near future. The Public Transport Agency (PTA) at RTA, the body that regulates taxi affairs in Dubai, is under considerable pressure from the franchise companies to raise fares following the double hike in fuel prices over the last six months.
