The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) at the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate efforts to uplift the calibre of taxi services and bring them at par with world-class standards.
The corporation attributed the decline to the development of bus and taxi fleets. As many as 5,614 cabs and 224 buses are running on the emirate’s roads. The launch of new bus stops at crowded areas and the deployment of more patrols and controllers are additional grounds.
Falling revenues and a decline in passenger numbers are the real reasons behind the increase in taxi fares, Sharjah Transport officials revealed yesterday. The officials said the move to increase tariffs by almost 25 per cent was taken to mitigate the loss of income by franchise companies. Starting this month, tariff rates increased to Dh1 for every 650 metres, up from Dh1 for every 800 metres.
