HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), offered sincere congratulations to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, marking the 11th anniversary of HH taking the reins as Ruler of Dubai Emirate.
It is an established tradition of His Highness to launch humanitarian & community-oriented initiatives marking the anniversary of HH taking office as Ruler of Dubai on Jan 4. This year, His Highness has rolled out the Emirates Food Bank initiative as a foundation aiming to inculcate the values of generosity and ensure food supply for the people of the UAE for generations to come. The people of this land are accustomed to offering hospitality to guests and giving to all people on earth. The initiative complements the benevolence drive of the UAE initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The launch of the Emirates Food Bank initiative from the start of the Year of Giving comes at a time where poverty is mushrooming in many countries around the globe causing serious repercussions on families, particularly children, whose tough living conditions force them to drop out of schools to seek jobs. His Highness the President of the UAE is keen on launching initiatives that serve the deprived persons worldwide, and for this reason, Dubai Cares initiative was initiated to support education in poverty-stricken countries. It was followed by Noor Dubai campaign to restore hope for the blinds, Kiswa initiative for dressing one million children worldwide, and UAE Water Aid.
His Highness has also launched the Reading Nation initiative to distribute five million books as gift from the UAE to the world, in addition to establishing 2000 libraries across the Islamic world. The campaign succeeded in securing more than seven million books, and the UAE declared 2017 as the Year of Benevolence to spread the giving hands of Emiratis all over the nation and beyond.
