The Ras Al Khaimah Transport (RAK) Authority has launched an all-new taxi service for people with special needs. The authority will provide a more convenient shuttle service to this important segment of the society, according to a senior official.

1aaYusuf Ismail, deputy chairman of the authority, told Khaleej Times that the taxis provided for special needs passengers have been amended to help commuters board and disembark with ease.

“It is actually a mini-bus rather than a saloon car, but fitted with a special machine or jack to lift up and down the passenger in a comfortable way.”

The passenger does not need to get off his or her wheel chair, he added. “That makes things easier for the passengers that they can go out anywhere and anytime with no hassle.”

The new service will be an advantage for the elderly, patients, and people with special needs, Ismail said. “The special needs taxi has been launched on a trial basis, but will be increased as per demand.”

The tariff of this special taxi is the same as that of regular taxis, he said. “The service can be availed within the emirate at toll free (8001700).” More info
