RTA develops plan to cut power use

The Power Rationalising Team at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has developed clear-cut plans to cut power consumption across RTA agencies in line with Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) and the Dubai Government championed cause.

RTA“We are also following-up and reviewing measures and putting mechanism in place to assess the implementation by the RTA agencies,” said the Director of RTA Buildings and Facilities and Head of RTA Power Rationalising Team, Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali.

He said his committee has been formed in line with the strategy of Dubai Government with the aim of achieving sustainable development and cutting power consumption.

“RTA water and electricity consumption rates are quite large, however, having formed a team comprising three sub-teams (technical team, awareness team and excellence team), we have managed to cut consumption rates in 2010 compared to the previous year.

The team’s plan this year is to cover three key entities: “Rail Agency to reduce power consumption by 10 per cent, Traffic and Roads Agency which is required to reduce power consumption of street lighting by 20 per cent, and the Technical Support Services Sector.
