A woman was killed early yesterday in a three-car crash in the Shindagah tunnel in Dubai.
The accident at 3am involved a Nissan Patrol driven by a man aged 27, a taxi driven by a man, 29, and a Corolla driven by a third man, 27.
“According to our preliminary reports, the incident took place in the exit of the Shindagah tunnel heading towards Bur Dubai after the Nissan Patrol driver went on the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with the taxi,” said Lt Col Abdullah Al Mesam, the director of the Naif police station. “The taxi then crashed into the Corolla, seriously injuring the driver and killing a 26-year-old female passenger.”
The drivers of the taxi and Corolla were trapped inside their vehicles.
“Three cranes and three rescue police cars were on the scene to liberate the victims,” said Capt Mohammed Al Riyasi of the Dubai Police rescue operations department.
The Nissan driver, who was arrested, suffered minor injuries. The drivers of the taxi and Corolla suffered serious injuries and were taken to Rashid Hospital.
