Dubai: Taxi passengers in Dubai are confused as some taxis have started charging Salik but most have not — despite an earlier announcement by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) that Dubai’s 8,000 taxis would start charging Salik from Tuesday.
Gulf News has learnt that the meters of most taxis are still to be synchronised to add the Salik toll automatically.
Four out of 15 taxi drivers confirmed that their taxis charged Salik by Wednesday afternoon — almost 40 hours after the Salik deadline to charge passengers was set by the RTA.
Many cabbies are still not aware when their meters will be upgraded, however, an RTA official said at least 600 out of 8,800 taxis had started charging the toll and the rest would be ready by the end of January. More info
