The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the number of downloads recorded in the licensing service app provided through smart phones (Blackberry, Android and Apple) has exceeded 26 thousands since the service was launched in mid of last September.
This encouraging figure comes in response to the strategy of the RTA aimed at service automation in the implementation of directives of Dubai Government, to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world within three years, and realization of the objectives of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Programme for Smart Government.
Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, said: “Renewing vehicles registration or driver licenses is normally processed through familiar channels namely: smart kiosk, RTA website, trusted agents, and the Call Center (8009090). But the RTA has developed a new licensing channel through launching RTA Drivers and Vehicles app; which can be downloaded in smart mobile phones through key platforms. Having more than 26 thousand downloads of the app is a good number and a positive indicator considering the short period since the service had been launched.
It remains to be said that the UAE has thus become the first country in the world to embark on renewing vehicle registration and driver licenses through smart phones and this has been certified by The International Commission for Driver Testing (CIECA); a global organization concerned with motorists affairs with membership comprising 35 countries, and the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA); an international body concerned with vehicle affairs comprising 53 countries as members.
“This service has multiple benefits to the customer namely: receiving a phone-generated notice that the licensing renewal date is approaching or is expiring, and reducing the renewal stages to about six steps. The customer can also take a shot of via the camera of the smart phone for the code of the licensing card which will be automatically communicated to RTA app portal where renewal process will be initiated. Moreover, the customer can figure out the locations of service delivery in case the customer wishes to complete the renewal through the nearest center, or else the customer can avail the ePay service for assistance,” explained Bahroyan.
“The services on offer at the innovative licensing app comprise the renewal of vehicle licensing & driver licenses, issuance of replacement of a lost or damaged vehicle registration card or driver license, inquiry about offences and payment of fines via credit cards, issuance of vehicle ownership or non-ownership certificate, issuance of driver-related certificate, renewal of vehicle registration with a new licensing plate, buying a distinguished number, and the issuance of a certificate of owning a distinguished number plate or a certificate in replacement of a lost or damaged one.
“There are several options for the customer to receive the transaction once processed through the mobile phone via RTA app namely: through the e-mail, courier company against nominal fees, private post office box, or the smart kiosk where the customer will be prompted to insert the code of the completed transaction and go to the nearest smart kiosk to enter the code and obtain the deliverable.
“The RTA will spare no effort in easing the processing of customer transactions by using highest technologies in implementation of the 3rd Goal of Bringing Happiness to People; which is part and parcel of the drive advocated by our prudent government,” said the CEO of RTA Licensing Agency in a concluding remark.
