A total of 6,650 Emirati taxi cab plate owners have been awarded a bonus of $7.24m, or an average of $1,089 each, by Dubai’s ruler.

“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the payment of a bonus amounting to Dhs26.6 million to Emiratis holding taxicab number plates operated by the Dubai Taxi Corporation and Taxi Franchise Companies at the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA); the total number of which is 6,650 plates,” it was announced in a statement.

The bonus covers 2013 and is over and above owner’s annual financial dues, the statement added.

Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA, thanked Sheikh Mohammed for rewarding taxi plate holders and said the bonus will help “them to better cope with the requirements of life and earn a decent living for them and their families”. More info
