Taxi drivers stripped off their neckties yesterday before forming a protest procession against unsafe working conditions, after the murder of a colleague. “We don’t want to wear these neckties,” said Kazi Mohammed, a Bangladeshi driver for National Taxi.
Taxi driver mugged, robbed, court told
Five men mugged a taxi driver for his wallet, personal documents and mobile phone, a Dubai court heard this morning. According to Criminal Court of First Instance records, JK and FK, both 26; KK and MA, both 22; and FM, 19, all Pakistanis, admitted to charges of assault and theft during prosecution investigations.

RTA workers took bribes to fake vehicle tests, court hears
Two data entry officers at the Roads and Transport Authority this morning denied taking bribes in exchange for forging official documents showing vehicles had passed testing. The two Iranians, a female defendant AB, 32, and SQ, 31, denied before the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance taking nearly Dh13,500 to falsify the vehicles’ test results.
Emarat ‘back to normal tomorrow’
Emarat petrol stations will be back to normal tomorrow after a four-day fuel shortage, the company said last night. The company apologised to customers for the “unfortunate confusion” and said it “appreciates their co-operation and understanding”.
High-speed Superbus debuts in Dubai
The high-speed bus that could slash journey times between Abu Dhabi and Dubai to 30 minutes went on show yesterday – and its creator said he hoped the UAE would be the first country to introduce the vehicle. The Superbus, which is being developed at the Delft University of Technology in Holland, is on show in Dubai at the UITP Mobility and City Transport Expo – the first time it has been seen outside Europe.
Taxi driver denies sex assault
A 33-year-old taxi driver this morning denied accusations of sexually assaulting a female passenger. The defendant, BB, from Pakistan, told the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance that he did not mean to touch her; he merely tried to help her with her safety belt.
