Dubai drivers rack up AED324m in fines in Q1
Dubai motorists notched up an additional AED72m in driving fines in the first three months of the year, compared to the same period in 2009, the city’s Roads and Transport Authority said.

No new Salik gates planned for city, says RTA exec
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has no plans to introduce new Salik toll gates to the city’s roads or to increase the cost at each gate, a senior executive said. Media reports in February said the authority planned to add a further two gates in a bid to raise transport revenues, bringing the total number of Salik points in the city to six.
Dubai awards over $7m to Emirati taxi plate owners
Emirati taxi operators in Dubai have been awarded a payment of AED26.4m ($7.17m) by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to help buffer rising living costs. The bonus will be given to Emirati owners of taxicab number plates, who lease the 6,542 plates to state-owned firms such as the Dubai Taxi Agency in exchange for an annual fee.
Business as usual says Emarat after fuel shortage
Emarat’s petrol stations are back in business after delivery problems caused a four-day fuel shortage at stations across Dubai. Staff were forced to turn motorists away after a delayed fuel shipment halted supplies and saw pumps across the city run dry, but station managers said Thursday normal service had resumed.
UAE nationals to be offered free parking permits
UAE nationals who own properties within current paid parking zones in Dubai are to be given free permits, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Sunday. The RTA said it has developed a parking fee exemption system (L category) for Emiratis who would be allocated free parking permits depending on the size of the property they own.
Phase 2 of Dubai bus, taxi lanes plan set for H2
The second phase of introducing dedicated bus and taxi lanes in Dubai will take place in the second half of this year, transport chief Mattar Al Tayer said on Monday. The chairman and executive director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said phase two will see 1km of Naif Road and 1km of Al Ittihad Road being changed to help the flow of public transport.
