Essa Abdul Rahman Al Dossary, CEO of the Public Transport Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), called for more efforts towards propagating the culture of using public transport means among various community segments at a time where the RTA is striving to broaden and upgrade the package of services offered to taxi users in Dubai Emirate, as the taxi service supports the public transport sector as well as the tourist sector in the Emirate.

A statement to this effect was recently made in an event held by the Public Transport Agency to launch the Hailing of Taxis by SMS service from Al Qusais Metro Station. The launch was attended by the Advisor of the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) Abdul Aziz Malik, and several directors of the Agency including the Director of Transportation Systems Adel Shakri, Director of Buses Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, and the Director of Franchise & Monitoring Furat Ali Al Amri, in addition to the work team overseeing the delivery of the service at the Agency.

“Hailing Taxis by SMS service will be available for the Dubai Metro commuters and from any metro station through sending an SMS containing the Number of the Station where the applicant is in. This Number consists of a Code for the Red/Green Line, Station Number, and Gate Code; such as G12A. The SMS has to be sent to 4774 and the applicant has to leave no space between numbers and codes,” said Al Dossary.

“The service, which is being made available only for holders of Etisalat numbers for the time being, is a valuable addition to the means of hailing taxis, and renders this process more handy & speedy besides satisfying the needs of a largest possible number of customers among residents, visitors and tourists.
